Grid-tied
A conventional grid-tied array works with the utility and normally shuts down during an outage for safety. It can reduce imported energy but does not create backup on its own.
Hybrid
A hybrid design combines grid interaction with compatible storage and controls. It may support selected circuits or a larger portion of the home, depending on output, energy, solar, and electrical design.
Off-grid
An off-grid system must serve loads without routine utility support. That raises the importance of conservative sizing, seasonal production, autonomy, generator strategy, redundancy, and maintenance.
